Our last day in Iquitos – Jordon

Today marks our final day in Iquitos.  It was sad to have to leave but at the same time it was nice to know we were able to help many people over the past few days.  I rotated with Dr. Leo in the OB/GYN department for the morning and it was a great experience.  He is very knowledgeable in the field and was able to provide clear, yet detailed feedback regarding my H&P taking and procedural skills, which included speculum and bimanual exams.  In the afternoon I rotated in dermatology and was able to view a surgery involving the removal of 3-4 cm wide acrochordon or skin tag.  In the evening, we visited Iquitos’s city hall where we received a warm welcome by the mayor and members of the local government.  There was a large celebration and we were grateful to be a part of such a ceremony.   Afterwards, our group attended a pizzeria in downtown Iquitos where the celebration continued.  The food was delicious and it was a great time!
